Meet the Team

John
John Masello is an interdisciplinary artist who makes sculptures and collages with plastic, ceramic, and fabric. John joined the 24hr Pottery team heading our adult education program in early 2021, and has been teaching clay classes since 2016. John is excited to help lead the Green Lake and Capitol Hill studios through high-quality ceramic instruction and technical mastery.

Alex
Alex Murray is a potter local to Seattle. He has been working with clay for 10 years perfecting techniques and enjoying every minute of it. Alex joined Eastside Pottery in late 2021. Alex teaches classes, keeps kilns running, and keeps our studio spaces clean among a long list of other things. Outside of EP, Alex likes to spend his time playing chess, spending time with friends, and making pots in his home studio.

Mahaylah
Mahaylah has been an artist for as long as she can remember. Her love of learning new ways to express herself and creating is apart of who she is. She uses many mediums to create but clay is by far the favorite. taking ceramic classes in high school and college she soon became hooked. From there she built a little studio in her parents garage. After moving to Seattle she had to figure out how to get her hands on clay again. Thus leading her to 24hr Pottery!

Jess
Jess Burlage holds a BFA in Animation and spent the past decade as a gaming industry illustrator before falling in love with ceramics in 2020. What began as a hobby quickly became her passion, leading her to embrace pottery full-time. Jess discovered that she thrives in the collaborative environment of community studios, rather than creating art in front of a computer screen. She has completed a ceramic career residency, worked as a studio tech, sold her work at local craft fairs, and taught ceramics for the past year. Jess values patience, adaptability, and embracing diverse approaches in her teaching, finding immense joy in inspiring her students. Outside the studio, Jess enjoys exploring the PNW through hiking, rock climbing, skiing, and foraging.

Jessie
Jessie fell in love with ceramics in 2016 during her first high school class and has been hooked ever since. Her passion for creativity extends across many mediums—painting, sewing, fiber art, jewelry making, and more—but working with clay remains her favorite. She loves experimenting with texture by adding carvings to clay bodies and carving away underglaze (sgraffito) to bring whimsy and personality to her pieces. Outside the studio, Jessie loves baking, live music, and exploring the beauty of Washington through dispersed camping in the summer. As an instructor, she is dedicated to creating a low-stress, welcoming environment that shows beginners just how fun and rewarding ceramics can be.

Meg
Meg began her pottery journey at 12 years old in a community studio built onto a home in Blossom Hill, CA. As other interests or hobbies came and went, working with clay was the only constant practice. 22+ years later, Meg is a Project Manager by day and is honored to be in Washington's incredible art community. When not playing in mud, Meg enjoys singing Lady Gaga loudly, becoming a Harry Potter loremaster, and playing with her boxer border-collie pup named Deja.

Nathan
Nathan has a BFA in Sculpture and ceramics from Pacific Lutheran University in 2010 and has been playing and creating in clay ever since! Although he loves many art forms, he can’t get enough of the messy and versatile nature of clay. Nathan loves to experiment with all sorts of clay techniques and methods. He especially enjoys sculptural, large form sectional throwing, slip work, sgraffito, and any firing technique that lets him play with fire - (safely of course!) When not playing with clay, you can find Nathan playing video games, watercolor painting, and spending time with his two young boys and wife. Ask him anything about Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Marvel comics, and Star Wars! He is a self proclaimed superfan and loves all things nerdy!

Kiyoko
Kiyoko Van Wyck has been an artist for most of her life, handling different mediums such as painting, wires, lino prints, stained glass and ceramics. She had gotten her BA in Art at Western Washington University with a concentration in ceramics. When Kiyoko is not working on a sculpture, she enjoys reading and playing with her dog at the beach.

Shan
Shan is an artist who explores joy, love, and community through clay. For over 10 years, they’ve created both sculptural and functional ceramics, drawn in since their very first pottery class. Shan views ceramics as a way to hold history—each firing preserving fingerprints, touch, and movement. They build this history through throwing, hand-building, and slip casting, embracing slow, rhythmic processes that allow space for reflection. Whether carving intricate patterns, constructing large pieces bit by bit, or layering glazes to create vibrant surfaces, Shan finds peace in the pace of making. Their functional work deepens connection with others, molding shared memories into each vessel. Every piece is a response to the question: What brings me joy, and how can I share it?

Emily
Emily discovered pottery in 2020 as a way to cope with the grief of losing her brother, Zach. What started as a therapeutic outlet quickly became a powerful tool for healing and connecting with others on their own mental health journeys.Emily hopes others can find the same sense of peace and purpose through clay that she has experienced. Pottery continues to be a source of comfort and a special way to feel connected to her brother.Outside of the studio, Emily loves spending time with her husband, Josh, and their two senior pups, Marley and Finn. Together, they enjoy exploring the beauty Washington has to offer.

Morgan
Morgan Nixon is a multi-medium artist with a love for mentoring. Her journey with ceramics began in high school. She often came in early, stayed late, and skipped class to work on her sculptures, which would eventually earn first-place awards in statewide ceramics competitions. After starting her animation career in Seattle, she found a second passion in mentorship, guiding aspiring animators and celebrating their growth. These dual loves, ceramics and teaching, sparked a dream to become a ceramics instructor. Beyond clay and animation, she enjoys knitting, sewing, painting, figure drawing, printmaking, silversmithing and exploring new art classes to grow her skills and teaching style. Now, she’s excited to blend her passions and give back to the creative community that has shaped her path.

Clay
Clay Sherman, Our resident art expert and overseer of all the creativity happening each day in the studio. Clay takes his job very seriously and loves supporting students through their creative endeavors with frequent snuggles, comedic brain breaks, and puppy kisses. When Clay is not in studio, he enjoys chasing a ball, taking long upside down naps, and playing with his little sisters.

Evan
Evan was born and raised in the great northwest, and had a childhood unencumbered by technology where together with his friends and younger brother had youthful days full of trees to climb, forts to build, and imaginary battles to wage through the forests near his home. Evan spent much of his career in the hospitality industry where he worked in operations for a family-owned chain of brewpubs, breweries, music venues, historic hotels, and theater pubs in Oregon and Washington many of which are locations that were rehabilitated historical properties; with at least nine of the buildings being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, instilling in Evan a love of all things quirky and weird. Evan joined the 24hr Pottery team in the spring of 2023 and when not present in the studios can be found enjoying the Northwest with friends, unwinding with a video game, immersing himself in a new book, or taking long walks on one of Washington’s many beaches.

Chelsea & Jon
We are so excited to bring our love of pottery and artist collaboration to the Seattle area. We are a husband and wife team, opening our first community studio in Redmond, Wa in 2017 - finally marrying Chelsea’s two biggest passions - education and ceramics, Redmond Art Works was born. In 2020 we opened the first Eastside Pottery, built solely to help adults carve time out for themselves with 24hr access, Introduction and specialty workshops to continue fostering each potters creativity and interests. Chelsea found pottery in high school and immediately realized it would be something she needed permanently in her life and wanted to share with others. She attended University of Montana studying Ceramics and Elementary Education. As we’ve grown, Jon has jumped in full heartedly providing all the things Chelsea’s artistic brain lacks. Jon heads business logistics for all our 24hr pottery locations and keeps the studio running with the help of our incredible teaching & leadership team. Jon and Chelsea now spend most their days supporting entrepreneurs throughout North America in opening their own studio or streamlining their current operations to create an even better experience for each community. When they aren't in studio, they are busy chasing their daughters- Avery (5), Riley(5), Ari (1), and their troublemaker Bernese Mtn Dog, Clay.
